Jmol: A Java based application that lets you view and analyze 3D chemical information

Jmol is a software application and an applet that can display various chemical information in a 3D environment where you can analyze, print, copy to clipboard or export the data to PNG, PPM or JPG files.

Since Jmol is a Java-based application it also requires the environment installed on your machine in order to work. Also, the tool is portable so you only need to run the executable and it won’t change your system’s Registry or create new files and folders on your hard drive.

The minimal UI is highly intuitive and lets you quickly upload files that have an ADF, XYZ, CIF, PDB or MDL extension. You can zoom in/put, reposition and rotate the selected object, select a group of atoms and measure the distance between them, turn on animation mode, make a list with atoms and change their properties and use undo/redo options.

Jmol offers a number of configuration settings which allows you to define the bonding distance, bond radius and tolerance, choose a default atom size, view errors and history information in a console and use the integrated script editor.

Lastly, you can print the generated data, copy it to the Clipboard or export it as a PNG, JPG or PPM file.
