Aegisub is a highly advanced user friendly subtitle editor with the support for ASS, SSA and SRT subtitle formats.

This is a subtitle editor meant for general purpose and it is an open-source SubStation Alpha project.
Aegisub was made to help subtitle makers in many different aspects of subtitle creation including subtitle typesetting, timing and editing. The application fixes many of the flaws and bugs featured in popular Medusa Subtitling Station, plus it adds many functions that are a must for any passionate subtitle maker.

Featuring some of the specially designed options and tools to improve the generic subtitle making, Aegisub has proven to be one of the best and most advanced SSA / ASS subtitle editors on the globe.

The subtitle editor comes with detailed user friendly manual with step by step tutorials to ensure that anyone can master the program in a short period of time.

Aegisub supports many features like use of all Unicode in UTF-7, UTF-8, UTF-16LE and UTF-16BE encodings and it allows import of other non-Unicode subtitles which could come in over thirty different character encodings, letting you to continue work or edit any subtitle not minding your local system settings.

Aegisub can open advanced Substation Alpha (.ass), Substation Alpha (.ssa), Subrip (.srt) and Plain-Text (.txt) (with actor data) subtitle formats and it allows full tag conversion from SRT to ASS.

Awesome options that are also included are highly useful Multiple Undo levels option and syntax highlighting.

Aegisub includes a Powerful Automation module based on the Lua scripting language which allows you to create advanced karaoke effects (including per-syllable effects, similar to AssCalc). You can also use Lua scripting language module for any other kind of subtitles manipulation you require.
