Nginx: A versatile application that can work as a mail proxy server, a HTTP and reverse proxy server and a generic TCP proxy server

Nginx is a powerful command line tool you can use as a mail proxy server, HTTP and reverse proxy server or as a generic TCP proxy server. You can work with the application via the Windows Command Prompt and using it as a HTTP server provides support for uwsgi, memcache, FASTCGI and SCGI servers among others.

The tool includes various settings and can serve both static and index files. One of its interesting capabilities makes it possible to upgrade or modify an executable while the client servicing runs uninterrupted.

Access control can rely on a password, on the client’s IP address or based on result of subrequests. It is also possible to stream FLV and MP4 files, as well as set a limit to the number of simultaneous connections.

Nginx can also be used as a mail proxy server and use an external HTTP authentication server to redirect traffic to POP3 and IMAP servers.
