Oracle VM VirtualBox: Full virtualizer for hardware

VirtualBox is a powerful virtualization software package for hardware, compatible for server, desktop and embedded use.
VirtualBox delivers the solution for running multiple operating systems at a time, allowing you to run applications written for one OS on another (for example Linux software on Windows or Mac) without having to reboot in order to switch between operating systems.

The “virtual” hardware presented to each operating system is configurable, thus providing the possibility to install even older operating systems which are not supported by new computer hardware, such as DOS.
VirtualBox is also useful for simplifying the installation process for complex software configurations.

Another strong feature of VirtualBox is the “snapshot” which allows you to save a specific state of a virtual machine and come back to it whenever you need to. In this way you can test any change performed to your computing environment and revert to a saved “snapshot”, in case something goes wrong (such as install errors or virus infections). You can create unlimited number of snapshots, switch between any of them or delete them.

VirtualBox provides the means to reduce hardware and electricity costs, enabling the possibility to use a small number of powerful hosts running multiple virtual machines on each one, instead of using a large number of partially used computers.
