The Dude: A free network management application suitable for small networks

The Dude is a free and functional network monitoring tool that provides essential capabilities for visual network management, as well as several advanced features.

The application will automatically scan your network, then provide a customizable visual interface of the network’s structure. You will be able to see all the workstations, file servers, routers, and web servers and any of these elements can be rearranged by simply dragging their icons with your mouse.

You can also add new networks, devices or submaps to the visual layout by entering their IP address or subnets.

Furthermore, The Dude can retrieve running services, IPs and MAC addresses for any network-connected device. Monitoring protocols can be used to send you notifications when important events or changes take place.

Also, the program offers various charts and statistic about your network, and allows you to ping, probe, traceroute, scan or use the remote connection to retrieve information about routers or workstations from the network.
