Runabc: A simple tool for playing ABC files with various control options

ABC files are musical notation documents that contain information about chords and symbols like the key and length of the note among others. Runabc is a friendly application that lets you play ABC files as well as view their details. The application can open and play the musical score contained by ABC files.

There’s a variety of playback functions included along with the ability to detect information about the files and a text editor where you can edit the file as a code. The layers of the song can be managed individually, for example, the voices, instruments, strings, keyboards and drums. Runabc allows you to open ABC files in text format in order to compose new tunes, or simply edit some options. Users can add grace notes for specifying actions and select the chord.

The program lets you convert specific elements from an ABC file, like reformatting lines, turning Gchords to voice, and extracting selected fragments. Also, you can change the drum configuration, the pitch, tempo and the voices.

Furthermore, there’s a built-in search tool for finding titles within an ABC file, a grouper, a histrogram matcher and the tune matchin tool. Runabc can also split and merge ABC files, but also convert MIDI files to ABC.
