Skinning is a gathering profession in Classic WoW that’s primarily used by Leatherworking professionals. The profession allows you to skin various critters and animals that you kill, providing you, depending on the mob level, with valuable materials. Keep in mind that some players choose Skinning as a starting profession since it’s easier to make gold and gather materials while you level up.
We also recommend checking our WoW Classic Guide for all the professions guides, leveling tips and guides as well as farming guides and class builds.
Quick Skinning Tips
- Don’t forget to buy a Skinning Knife, it’s sold by Leatherworking Supply vendors everywhere.
- Buy bags, even if that means you’re going to sacrifice some gold early one. More bag space means more loot to sell
- If you can, enchant your gloves with Formula: Enchant Gloves – Skinning so you can skin mobs 1 level higher than you
We’ll organize this Leatherworking guide by level brackets and evidently, by faction. We will highlight the are that’s best for that level bracket, you can do your own Skinning pathing in that area, depending on how crowded it is.
Fast Level Skinning Guide
Levels 1 – 50
Alliance – Elwynn Forest
You can create any path you want in this zone, just be aware of the Kobold and Murloc camps, they are no use to you when skinning.
Horde – Durotar
Levels 50 – 100
Alliance – Westfall
Avoid the farms since they are populated mostly by Humanoids.
Horde – The Barrens
If you quest here, there are a lot of beasts to kill and skin. Wailing Caverns is also a perfect place to skin if you plan on farming it. Overall, the Barrens has a lot of beasts so if you find this area camped, start roaming.
Levels 100 – 150
From level 100, both Horde and Alliance can farm in these areas. If your server is PvP or PvE, you might have a harder time in some of these zones.
Hillsbrad Foothills – There are a lot of places to skin here, the highlighted areas are more populated but you can roam with no problem. You can level to 150 here.
Wetlands – A lot of beasts here as well and a bit more Alliance friendly than Hillsbrad.
Level 150 – 200
Alterac Mountains – Mountain Lions and Yetis are your “friends” here, just roam the highlighted area and you won’t lack any action.
Arathi Highlands – Again, a bit more Alliance friendly but effective for both factions.
Level 200 – 250
The Hinterlands – a very good area for skinners, you won’t lack any action here.
Feralas – Here you can level to 300 if you want.
Level 250 – 300
Un’Goro Crater
That’s it, you leveled your Skinning to 300, congrats!
